A Whole New World: Theatre Experience Opens Doors

Garrett Fuentez uses material, thread and a little imagination to create an entire world for the stage at 91影视. He is a 91影视 student majoring in theatre and puts the finishing touches on Aladdin鈥檚 vest, paying attention to the intricate details, as part of a summer Costume Techniques class.

Fuentez, along with fellow students, Cody O鈥橲teen, Robert Shook, Micah Timmons and Hannah Henderson, are showcasing their talents in costuming, choreography and prop building for Tulsa Children鈥檚 Summer Theatre production of Disney鈥檚 鈥淎laddin, Jr.鈥 The summer production has a cast of more than 40 children, between the ages of 6 and 16, which means a great deal of work behind the scenes.

鈥淲hile many elementary and middle schools still offer music programs, we don鈥檛 see as many theatre programs during those grade levels and this summer program helps fill the gap,鈥 said 91影视 Theatre Coordinator and Tulsa Children鈥檚 Summer Theatre coordinator Mark Frank. 鈥淭he program opens the door for many kids who may not otherwise be introduced to theatre as well as provides opportunities for 91影视 students to help with the production through hands-on learning projects and class curriculum.鈥

Disney鈥檚 鈥淎laddin, Jr.鈥 has all of the favorite characters from the hit Disney film including Aladdin, Jasmine, Iago, Jafar, the Genie, and is a musical adventure filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides. Plus, the show features the award-winning score, with songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, including "A Whole New World" and "Friend Like Me."
