91Ӱ Theatre Season To Open with “The Miser”

Comedy, intrigue, betrayal and a fresh take on a classic farce are part of the 91Ӱ Theatre Department’s 2015-2016 season. The productions begin with a five-act comedy by the French playwright Molière, “The Miser,” followed by “One Man, Two Guvnors,” “The Lion in Winter,” and Elton John and Tim Rice’s “Aida.”

In addition to the three plays and one musical, the 91Ӱ Theatre Department’s popular Die Laughing Improvisational Comedy Troupe will perform at the 91Ӱ Metro Campus and 91Ӱ Southeast Campus during the 2015-2016 season.

“91Ӱ’s Performing Arts program has nearly 200 Theatre and Music majors and within our expanding program we have 1,000 enrollments in theatre or music specific classes,” said Coordinator of 91Ӱ Theatre Department and Assistant Professor Mark Frank. “91Ӱ Theatre students are involved in all aspects of a show’s production from acting to set designing and even sewing the costumes starting the first semester on campus.”

The 91Ӱ Theatre Department will have several guest actors during the year. The season opener will pair Justin Mayer with 91Ӱ students Kurt Bennett and Jacque Weiden for the three main roles in the show. Bennett is a freshman theatre major from Tulsa and Weiden is a sophomore theatre major from Owasso. In addition, both are members of the Die Laughing Improvisational Comedy Troupe. Mayer is from Tulsa but completed a two-year acting conservatory program at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.

“The Miser” is 8 p.m., Oct. 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 and2 p.m., Oct. 4 and 11 at the VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education (PACE) Studio Theatre, 10300 E. 81st Street on the 91Ӱ Southeast Campus.

Tickets for all performances are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for students and can be purchased at the VanTrease PACE ticket office on the 91Ӱ Southeast Campus or at www.myticketoffice.com. Student rush tickets are available for $3 one hour before the performance.
