91影视 Student Receives $500 for 2019 Holiday Card Design

Caleh Trexler studied art in high school and college before switching majors and transferring to 91影视. Now a Music major, she used her artistic background to enter the student design competition for the 2019 91影视 Holiday Card after seeing social media posts and flyers on campus about entering. Each year, the call for entries is open to any 91影视 student to submit a design and one is selected as the annual 91影视 Holiday card.
Inspired by her childhood, she created an acrylic on canvas painting showing an outdoor nightscape of evergreen trees covered with snow and decorated with lights against a starry midnight sky.
鈥淲hen I was a child, we had this tree outside our house when we lived in Tennessee. My family would always decorate that tree with strings of lights. It looked so pretty at night under the stars,鈥 said Trexler.
Trexler received $500 from the 91影视 Foundation and 25 printed copies of the card that features her painting. The holiday card will be emailed to 91影视 students, faculty, and staff, and mailed to community members and 91影视 Foundation members by 91影视 President & CEO Leigh B. Goodson, Ph.D. during the 2019 holiday season.
鈥淭he artwork I created brings me back to my childhood and those warm feelings and seeing it makes me think of the special times with family. I hope people will feel the warmth of the holidays and remember the good times they have had,鈥
Trexler is expected to graduate spring 2020 with two associate degrees with plans to transfer to Oral Roberts University to complete a bachelor鈥檚 degree in music education. She would like to be a music teacher and use music education for ministry work.
